Verse 1:
Well it was another hot night/
a typical summer's eve/
we's at the ol' saloon 'cuz Davy ws about to leave/
see Davy was the crazy type/
to go get drunk and start a fight/
takin' shot after shot/
I kept sayin' my boy ain't right/
that crazy look in his eyes/
I said, "man here comes trouble"/
a shot rang out/
that bar got ghost in a double/
Davy walked out the pool room bug smile on his face/
I asked him what happened/
he said "we gotta' get out of this place"/

Bridge 1:
The bartender came out the back room with a shotgun/
but all that was irrelevant/
good ol' Davy was already gone/
and when I asked him why he shot him/
he said "just for the hell of it"/

Verse 2:
That very next morning there was a knockin' at my door/
it was Davy sayin' "Hello" like a million times before/
I told Davy to "run man on your head they got a bounty"/
offered him a hundred bucks/
to get up outta this county/
Davy just smiled and asked if he could stay the night/
I told him just to be quiet/
and he could crash here alright/
"but in the morning, you gotta get the hell up outta' here"/
before he went to sleep he helped himself to all of my beer/

Bridge 2:
I tried to tell myself/
time and time again/
he ain't right in the head/
now there's a killer sleepin' in my bed/
a smooth talker if he's got it he's sellin' it/
he said he shot that man/
last night/
just for the hell of it/

Verse 3:
Davy didn't leave that morning/
just stayed and drank my whiskey/
the sheriff came a'knockin'/
askin me "Where is he?!"/
Davy smiled on the couch/
laughin' at the law/
the sheriff drawed/
and said that he could kill us all/
Davy wasn't even scared at the site of the sheriff/
he said, "Davy boy, you's a disgrace to your parents"/
right then/
Davy reached into his 501's/
and right there/
the sheriff let of his gun/
(Ka-Blow!)

Bridge 3:
Davy wasn't doin' well/
critical/
far from stable/
took two in the chest and one more near the navel/
the sheriff asked him "Why?"/
but it's irrelevant/
he said he shot that man/
cold blood/
just for the hell of it/
